Global expansion

ECCO built new factories in Indonesia, Thailand and Slovakia. Sales subsidiaries were opened in Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Sweden, Belgium and Poland.

ECCO also decided to make a serious entry into the North American market, by opening a US sales company. In 1994, ECCO was named “Footwear Company of the Year” in the US.

In 1996, Karl Toosbuy and his son-in-law, Dieter Kasprzak, decided to start producing golf shoes. The first shoe was launched the same year to a positive reception.
