Senior Sustainability Specialist

To enlarge our corporate sustainability team, based out of our office in Dongen/The Netherlands, we are looking for an environmental specialist.

Do you get excited about guiding global companies to understand and improve their environmental performance? Are you passionate about driving positive environmental change in a global business? Do you keep up to date with emerging legislation, such as the EU Green Deal, and methodologies surrounding LCA?


Knowledge & Experience

  • Degree in an environmental or engineering discipline, (or otherwise to have a fair record of accomplishment working in a sustainability role, so that you can demonstrate your knowledge).
  • 5+ years' experience in an environmental reporting or corporate sustainability function, preferably for brands/retailers in fashion/footwear sector
  • Experience in the implementation of environmental strategies in a global value-chain set-up
  • Experience in greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, tracking and target setting, preferably using SBTi approach as well as building business cases for GHG reduction activities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current and upcoming legal regulations regarding environmental topics in a global organization/value chain.
  • Experience in communication of environmental claims (e.g., Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and ISO standards)
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and to work collaboratively across functions and leadership levels, build trust, win support and influence without authority
  • Strong project management, analytical, and time management skills Familiarity with industry standards for LCA’s; including general product category rules, EU Product Environmental Footprint (PEF category rules) and ISO 14040/44.
  • Fluent in English.


What will you be doing?

Becoming a member of a small, dedicated team, you will drive the sustainable development of the company by:

  • Interdisciplinary project work throughout the entire value chain to assure that from design over production and logistic processes till sales and end-of-life, environmental considerations are made and actions in place to continuously improve the sustainability of our products.
  • Review As-is situations and provide key insights to top management how to further develop the business towards our sustainable strategy.
  • Contribute to the application and development of interdisciplinary models for environmental and carbon footprints of products and systems to, e.g., support policies and business development.
  • Drive the systemisation of environmental data recording and reporting in the organization.
  • Understand and be well informed about the specific legal and customer requirements surrounding environmental stewardship and raise awareness and bringing actions forward to stay ahead.
  • Gather appropriate data, conduct life cycle assessments based on best practices, account for uncertainties in the data, and present the results in a clear, compelling way to technical and non-technical teams and supply chain partners.
