Senior Material Expert - Foams

  • Education, Min. BSc degree in chemical engineering, material engineering, chemistry
  • Experience, Min. 5 years’ experience from footwear industry
  • Mobility/Travel, Frequent traveling – up to 80 days per year
  • Optional competencies
    - Excellent communication and networking skills 
    - Have a natural and dedicated focus on quality. 
    - Responsible, takes initiative and ownership, recognize and act on opportunities.
    - Strong analytical skills in analyzing and understanding data.
    - Experience in CAE/FEM is a plus.

Job Summary

The Senior Material Expert specialized in foams will lead our materials development initiatives. This pivotal role involves driving innovation in foam material properties, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring the highest standards of quality. The Senior Material Expert, will leverage their expertise to optimize foam materials, stay at the forefront of industry advancements, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies, with a focus on collaboration, quality assurance, and mentorship.
The Senior Material Expert will play a key role in shaping the future of our foam materials portfolio (PU, EVA, SCF etc..) being a dynamic and experienced professional passionate about advancing foam materials.

Duties & Responsibilities

Material Development and Optimization: Lead the development and optimization of foam materials, focusing on enhancing properties such as sustainability, lightweight, durability, and other relevant characteristics.

Innovation and Research: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and scientific advancements related to foams. Contribute to the identification and implementation of innovative solutions that push the boundaries of foam material performance.

Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product development and production, to integrate foam materials into product designs effectively. Work with external suppliers and partners to source or develop new materials.

Quality Assurance: Establish and implement rigorous testing protocols to ensure the quality and reliability of foam materials. Conduct thorough analysis and testing to identify potential improvements and troubleshoot any issues that arise.

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of material development processes, test results, and specifications. Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, summarizing progress and findings.

Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about relevant industry regulations and standards pertaining restricted chemicals. Ensure that developed materials comply with applicable safety and environmental guidelines.

Mentorship and Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members. Act as a subject matter expert, sharing knowledge and insights to foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.

The Sr. Material Expert, foams, will conduct all the following tasks:

- Implementation new foam materials S0-S2, incl. proper documentation and supplier contact. 
- Color paste development
- Release agent development 
- Filler foam and component development 
- Lead tech. projects incl. internal/external stakeholder management 
- Test and approve materials in new molders.
- Own and maintain processing guidelines, 
- Owns and maintain material portfolio.
- MSDS approval 
- PLM maintenance system 
- Approval reports and documentation
- Handover documents for production 
- Scouting of new material opportunities, incl. visiting fairs, suppliers etc. 
- Translate material properties into design guidelines.
- Support development of new testing methods and standards
