Senior Climate Lead

Senior Climate Lead – make your global sustainability mark

Would you like a brand-new role as our global climate specialist and lead the implementation and transformation of a new climate strategy?

In this role, which spans the entire ECCO organisation globally, you will both shape your own position and define our climate processes as we work towards our environmental targets.
“You’ll be the go-to person for anything climate-related and join a team of highly skilled specialists who all collaborate on a joint sustainability strategy,” explains Ilona Coremans, Head Sustainable Solutions.
Address climate change and promote sustainability
In our Sustainable Solutions Department, we are 5 colleagues looking into sustainable solutions and new technologies within water, energy, waste, and circularity. Our aim is to reduce the environmental footprint on ECCO’s entire value chain – across tanneries, shoe factories, supply, transportation, warehousing, shops, end-of-life products etc. Currently, our team is based in the Netherlands, but you will be based at our HQ in Denmark alongside our other corporate responsibility and sustainability functions.
In this role, you will be at the forefront of ECCO’s efforts to address climate change and promote sustainability. Thus, you will develop and lead the implementation of our climate strategy, working closely with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders.
As this is a new role, we expect it to develop over time. Your focus to begin with will be to find the right processes and tools to monitor our carbon footprint – then develop a strategy, including defining focus areas to deliver on emission data, and continuously improve the methodology and calculation methods.
Collaborating closely with our Sustainability Data Lead, Regulatory and ESG Reporting Functions, you will:
Monitor our climate data (carbon footprint) and set the right targets for greenhouse gas emissions reduction, renewable energy adoption, and other key performance indicators
Conduct a climate risk assessment to understand the potential impacts of climate change on our operations, supply chain, and communities and develop adaptation strategies
Implement climate action initiatives for emissions reduction, energy efficiency improvements, and renewable energy procurement, leveraging innovative technologies and solutions
Engage with internal and external stakeholders to build support for climate initiatives, advance climate goals, and advocate for policy changes
Monitor and report on progress to senior leadership and other stakeholders, and conduct periodic reviews and evaluations of climate initiatives
Experience within the environmental, energy, or sustainability field
On a personal level, you can work hands-on with projects and handle the climate area with limited supervision. You know how to act with a diverse group of stakeholders from different functions and levels, and in the process, your communication is always on point.
Finally, we imagine that you:
Hold a degree in the environmental-/energy-/sustainability-related field or have equivalent experience working in an environmental/carbon reduction role
Have several years of experience working in the environmental field
Have experience in carbon accounting and carbon reduction, and/or energy transition initiatives across the value chain
Speak and write English effortlessly
Work across the entire value chain
In ECCO, we have the entire value chain in-house. That means your role will span wide, have global reach – and be absolutely essential to ECCO’s ability to live up to sustainability laws and stay competitive. As you shape your role and deepen your work in relation to climate change, you will impact the organisation directly by increasing our market advantage and becoming a preferred brand.
Are you ready for your next challenge?
We will invite candidates for interviews on an ongoing basis, so do not hesitate to apply.
