Product Development Team Leader

Work location for this position: Factory in Ayutthaya, Thailand

We are looking to fill our Product Lead for Product Development Department in our shoe production factory in Ayutthaya, Thailand. 

Job Summary:

The PD Team Leader is accountable for range building in the newly set up PD structure in the production units during the collection process, meaning developing and delivering high quality products – on time within 3 loops. Balancing design aesthetics and material specifications with optimal functionality and manufacturability. Engineering to target cost, offering viable options to product not hitting target cost. 

The PD Team Leader will execute the products from design/sketch/plot into shoes with the right look/feel/touch. The PD Team Leader has ownership from design sketch / plot until delivery of SMS.

The PD Team Leader is a result-driven person who motivates the team and is willing to go the extra mile, inspires the team by creating a cohesive team and environment that promotes positive communication, encourages bonding of team members, demonstrates flexibility and has the ability to collaborate with all stake holders in the production facility, 

General Tasks & Responsibilities

Operating infrastructure

  • Drive operational excellence by being the go-to-person for PD HQ in all technical, commercial, communicative and/or seasonal matters for the PD team
  • Be responsible for budget management in area of responsibilities
  • Be responsible for material inventory management at all stages of the creative process
  • Create robust and flexible product development processes to facilitate agile and stable product development
  • Lead and drive the collaboration between PD HQ, PD Unit and Pre-production

Product integrity
  • Provide technical engineering and special instructions for cutting, stitching, montage and finishing to Production standard.
  • Deliver products with good engineering, perfect fit and comfort as well as recommendations for improvement of quality.
  • Oversee mold / last development in case of new developments
  • Deliver product maintaining the “product essence” need
  • Work collaboratively with Production Preparation

Price to value

  • Perform costing engineering to reach targets with BOM and cost freeze at G 2 stage. Provide necessary cost options to ensure cost target compliance
  • Engage the Pre Production team in cost engineering throughout the development process to ensure costs do not change after sale samples have been made and costs locked
  • Costs to be locked and 100% target cost compliant by P4 sample stage at G2

Calendar Management

  • To drive calendar discipline through duration driven milestones across the creation landscape. Progress mapping through PLM driven KPI’s
  • Support in planning and preparing all relevant meetings as well as follow up outcomes in various development phases incl. follow up on time-lines from development to production
  • Be responsible for preparing and releasing factory information (HPI) when required ….
  • Pro-actively manage up and down stream partners to deliver against deadlines. Ensure consequences of not delivering against deadlines are fully understood
  • Measure, socialize and action improvement needs relative to critical hand off KPI’s

Leadership

  • Lead and manage the PD team - maintaining clear and transparent communication to employees, thus creating an atmosphere of trust and respect within the organization 
  • Promote an innovative approach to problem solving for tasks carried out and enable employees to do so by contributing with new methods of engineering and material usage, aiming a better contribution of the products developed
  • Ensure ECCO safety rules are upheld at all times, allowing for a safe working environment for all employees
  • Develop talent with the PD organization by performing yearly individual Annual Performance Review Meetings
Job Experience & Requirements

    • Bachelor Degree or similar
    • At least 10 years of experience within footwear industry – development and/or production
    • Detailed knowledge of shoemaking and process implications
    • Deep knowledge of shoe function, fit and comfort
    • Profound expertise of lasts and molds 
    • Experience within project management
    • High proficiency in English – fluently in writing and verbally
    • Ability to work with 2D and 3D tools
