Global Merchandising Demand Planner

Job profile

The Global Merchandising team of ECCO has responsibility for high quality forecasting to ensure supply chain efficiency and ultimately products are reaching end consumers at the required time. The Demand Planner is an integral member of the Global Merchandising team and is responsible for all demand planning duties including estimating future product demand, analysing inventory flow, and developing forecast models.

The Demand Planner is accountable for consolidated global demand plans, monitoring a timely and accurate Forecast update from the regions, providing an input to the S&OP DMR. cycle

Based on historical data, trends, sales performance plans and inventory levels , the Demand Planner will analyse, address any potential risks and opportunities to regions and share the feedback to senior leaders in global merchandising team who will then review this in the DMR.

The Demand Planner will be expected to collaborate with various stakeholders: i.e. Regions, S&OP, Global and Regional Finance Sales teams, S&OP team and internal team leaders in the Global Merch team. Demand Planner is accountable for Global Demand Planner KPI and drives relevant process improvement activities, based on the following:


  • Develop effective statistical forecast models based on historical sales trends, industry trends and demand patterns.
  • Successfully communicate forecast and inventory estimations to stakeholders.
  • Review and analyse Global forecasting plans in the Anaplan system, challenge the regions input if inconsistencies or lack of clarity.
  • Monitor and report on important changes in sales forecasts, budgets, and business strategies.
  •  Provide an input into the DMR and S&OP.
  • Support management with risk assessments and mitigation activities.
  • Be accountable for the forecast accuracy results. Propose and implement solutions to improve demand forecast accuracy.
  • Timely provide full transparency regarding the expected changes to forecast, sales plans and budgets, risks and opportunities.
  • Provide input in developing inventory strategies on existing items, new products and product phase-outs.
  • Partner with other Department and regions in the development of optimizing the approach
  • Achieve consensus for demand forecasts by facilitating a collaborative planning process with sales, marketing and finance stakeholders.
  • Use and maintain the Anaplan planning tool.
  • Provide input to the Supply Planning organization in developing inventory strategies on existing items, new products, and product phase-outs.


  • Conduct pre and post seasonal demand analysis; prepare weekly/monthly/ad hoc reports and analysis 
  • Analyse, solicit, and assess feedback from market forecaster, sales, and finance. Recommend adjustments
  • Analyse current trends and historical data to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Coordinate cross-functional research activities to reconcile significant variances and refine the forecast model to reflect updated sales and marketing assumptions.

To succeed in this position, you need a strong pro-active mindset and analytical skills, ready to provide valuable insight to senior stakeholders across the business. Furthermore, you have

  • 3-5 years’ work experience in Forecast Control, Demand Planning, Supply or Sales & Operations Planning or Merchandizing (preferably in the footwear industry).
  • Experience with forecasting tool/s 
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain process flow 
  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential to effectively interact with all teams, areas and levels of business.
  • Proficiency in statistics, planning, forecasting and forecasting methods with an understanding of their financial and operational impacts 
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office is required, including Excel: macros, v-lookups, pivot tables, complex formulas etc.
  • Experience with SAP is preferred.
  • Possession of Dutch working entitlements is required. This role does not provide relocation assistance.
